MicroDots
MicroDots are a property marking system manufactured by
MicroTag Technologies Ltd. Armed with just one pot of MicroDots
anyone can deter thieves by marking their most valued possessions
with a unique code invisible to the naked eye. Each MicroDot
dispenser contains approximately 500 dots suspended in
a special adhesive which, once dry, will glow under ultra-violet
light.
Using the special applicator in the dispenser, the dots
and a small amount of adhesive can be easily dabbed onto
the item to be marked. Large items such as bicycles, cars
or televisions should be marked in several places, whereas
smaller items such as jewellery, mobile phones or cameras
can be marked with a single dot.
Although the microscopic dots are just 1.25 mm in diameter
written on each dot is the telephone number of the International
Security Register and a unique reference number. When property
marked with MicroDots is recovered by the police and checked
for identity markings using ultra-violet light the location
of the dots are revealed by the glow of the special adhesive.
The telephone number and reference number can then be read
with a microscope/MicroDot Reader.
Details of the registered owner of every MicroDot reference
number are held on the International Security Register
which can be accessed by the police twenty four hours a
day, seven days a week.
