About MicroTag

Administration CentreMicrotag Technologies Ltd was formed in 2002 to develop a range of security marking solutions for both domestic and commercial environments using state of the art laser marking and cutting applications.

The original product comprised 500 microdots held in an Ultra Violet resin, that could be applied to virtually any surface and would enable the Police to identify the rightful owner of the goods.  In order to achieve nationwide awareness of the product the company has sent over 2,000 crime reduction kits to all of the police forces throughout the country.  The kit includes a magnifying reader that enables the Police to read the unique reference number on each dot and a black light that enables the Police to see the ultra violet resin which identifies that there is a microdot present.

The 0800 telephone number directs the Police to a high security database (ISR) that is operated 24 – 7, 365 days per year that meets all the necessary Policy and Government requirements for secure database and is run on the Company’s behalf by Retaina Group.  The Police then quote the unique reference number on the dot and the database then confirms who the rightful owner of the goods is.

MicroTag Factory, WalesThe original concept has been well received by both the Police and the public with companies including Littlewoods, Halfords, Explorer Caravan, Mac Tools and Phones 4U all offering the product to their customers. MicroTag has done extensive work with Government Departments including the B.E.R.R. (formerly D.T.I.) on Laser Marking solutions for portable company assets.

It is now possible to permanently mark almost any surface with an unlimited range of images, logos, asset ID numbers and text. The mark cannot be removed and any defacing would be obvious to the eye and would dramatically reduce the value of the marked item. All marked items can be registered within a dedicated database and with any relevant codes and descriptions as required.

Another unique feature available through MicroTag is the Reward Service. History has shown that the Reward Scheme considerably increases the likelihood of recovery of the item. In most cases it is a lost or left item not necessarily stolen which is found in a train station, taxi, hotel lobby etc. It is not just the financial value of a lost or stolen laptop but the value of any potentially confidential data held on it.

The Laser Etching Service can compliment or replace any existing asset labeling system. As and when a finder contacts the International Security Register their details are taken along with the serial number of the label, the serial number of the recovered item and where it was found. MicroTag will then arrange for the collection and repatriation of the item back to the owner, whilst at the same time paying the finder’s reward.
